About the webcast

Do you wonder why there are so many Bible translations and what makes them different from one another?

Have you heard someone say that all modern English Bible translations are theologically biased or politically motivated to change God’s Word to be more acceptable to today’s culture?

Are you questioning if you are using the best translation in your church?

If you’ve answered “Yes!” to any of these questions, we encourage you to join us for this 40-minute webcast conversation on “Demystifying Bible Translations.”

Hear from Dr. Bill Mounce (leading Greek scholar, author, and Bible translator), Ken Lucas (senior pastor of Trinity Mission Church in Grand Rapids, MI), and Melinda Bouma (Publisher of Zondervan Bibles) as they discuss how Bible translation work is done, why there are so many translations, and how one pastor decided which one is best for his church.

You will leave this time feeling more knowledgeable about Bible translations and equipped to make good choices in your own Bible reading and better prepared to help others as they explore various Bible translations.

Dr. Bill Mounce

Bill is the founder and President of BiblicalTraining.org, serves on the Committee for Bible Translation (which is responsible for the NIV translation of the Bible), and has written the best-selling biblical Greek textbook, Basics of Biblical Greek, and many other Greek resources. He blogs regularly on Greek and issues of spiritual growth.

Bill was also a preaching pastor, a professor of New Testament and director of the Greek Language Program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a professor at Azusa Pacific University. Robin and he have been married since 1983 and have three adult children.

Ken Lucas

Ken Lucas is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary where he focused his studies on two subjects- first, Missional Church Theology and second, New Testament Studies. Ken has a passion for introducing Jesus to young people who’ve shown little interest in the Gospel. Before moving to Grand Rapids, from New Jersey, he pioneered creative, collaborative relationships with business leaders, local politicians, educators with a local congregation. In 2016, he and his wife moved to Grand Rapids, for what they thought was a short six month stay before they moved to Seattle, WA to plant a church. God had different plans- in January, 2018, he and team of kingdom mischief makers planted Trinity Mission Church. The Trinity community continues to grow as it experiments with a model of gathering and scattering- Trinity gathers on Sunday to celebrate the Gospel, and then scatters into greater Grand Rapids to make Jesus known!

Melinda Bouma

Melinda Bouma serves as the Publisher for Zondervan Bibles. She loves God’s Word and seeing its life-changing impact on the world. She lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and two young children. She enjoys running, reading, good food & good friends, and looks forward to a day when her kids let her sleep in again!
